Dedication and service recognised

Eight residents were on Wednesday awarded the Bega Valley Community Service Medallion for their dedication to local communities, including Colleen Elton of Lochiel.

Colleen has been in the area since 1962, and was recognised for throwing herself into voluntary service and being an outstanding example of serving her community.

Colleen was a member of the Steering Committee that started the Imlay Preschool and a new Pambula Public School, she was a member of the Eden Marine High P and C establishing a new assembly hall, provided free tennis coaching for juniors, and hosted exchange students.

Colleen was awarded a Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship and a Community Service Award at the 2017 International Women’s Day Lunch. She has also worked tirelessly for Landcare to eradicate botanical pests.

Colleen is passionate about social justice issues and women’s rights. She is a supporter of the Bega/Littleton Sister City Group and a member of the Bega Valley Advocates for Time Leste.
