Organisers are encouraging everyone to head along to Spencer Park with your family and friends to enjoy the fun-filled morning event.
The day is all about health and happiness, but also raising funds and awareness about breast cancers.
As part of a series of events held across the country, the Mother’s Day Classic has helped raise $30 million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
“The five–year survival rate for someone with breast cancer is now 90%, research has directly led to improvements in prevention, early diagnosis and treatments,” MDC CEO Sharon Morris said.
"However, for those with advanced cancer the survival rate is only 22 per cent, so we need to fund more research in this space. The more we know about the different types of breast cancer, the more successful we will be in developing tailored treatments.”
Ms Morris said women in regional areas face different challenges for treatment and some of the research money had been raised directly for dealing with those difficulties.
The benefits of the run can be twofold as maintaining health can help improve responsiveness to treatment.
As a breast cancer fundraiser the Mother’s Day Classic will take on a pink theme – bright outfits are very welcome and there are prizes to be won.
Rotary will have lots of pink cupcakes and hot tea and coffee available on the day.
The morning offers both 5km and 10km distances to run or walk starting at Spencer Park.
“Families are very welcome, bring your babies and prams, toddlers as well as those just wanting to have a fun day for a great cause,” a spokeswoman for the event said.
Registrations are open online now or you can register at Spencer Park on the day.
“Just turn up by 8.15am to register on the day, or visit www.mothersdayclassic.com.au,” the spokeswoman said.
