If someone had of been lucky enough to land a hole-in-one they would have driven away in a brand new $30,000 Jeep from Bega Valley Motors. 

“Rod Boyd and Adam Inwood both gave it a pretty good rattle,” men’s golf president John Fletcher said. 

“They’re both very good golfers and they came close, but couldn’t quite take it in one.”

Fletcher said 70 players took part across the two days with idyllic conditions for the event.

Officials thanked J Michelin and Son, Gippsland Tyre Service, Coles and Bega Valley Motors for their generous support of the event. 

“Open champion was the very talented ex-member Brett Miller from the Burleigh golf club on the Gold Coast, who amassed rounds of 77 and 74 for a 151 victory,” Fletcher said. 

“I was very pleased for the young bloke who won it, there are a lot of Millers in Eden and they all play golf, and they’re all left-handers,” he added with a laugh. 

“It’s quite odd to see them all playing left-handed, when there are boof heads like me who are left handed, but play right handed.” 

Best nett score across the 36-hole event was recorded by Eddie Miller with 71 and 67 for 138. 

A grade scratch winner was Scott Thornton with rounds of 78 and 77 for 155. 

Mal Barnes carded 86 and 87 to claim B grade with 173 and Michael Sandling took the C grade honours with rounds of 92 and 101 for a total of 193. 

Rod Boyd and John Fletcher were the golden shot winners. 

Fletcher said the competition had been supported by Gippsland Tyres for more than 25 years and the business was looking to support their own special round later this year. 

Fletcher thanked them for their continued support.

Unfortunately, Fletcher said numbers were slightly down throughout the weekend and organisers said they would look to take the event away from the Easter long weekend. 

“There are too many people away or have their families down for a visit so we’ll look to keep it in April but get it separate from the holiday,” Fletcher said. 

Officials will hold a meeting this week to discuss the options and said they were excited to build the event for next year. 

On Saturday, members will contest a four-ball best-ball stableford for men and ladies for a shotgun start at 11am with support from Grant and Pam Inwood.
