He said the club would like the put the result behind it and move forward in the season after the Stallions claimed a crushing 64-8 result in the first grade showdown.
The Fillies also claimed the league-tag faceoff 24-6, while the under 18s succumbed to the mountain-men 50-10 in what Gandon said was “bitterly cold, wet and windy weather”.
“The only bright spark for us when through our portability Bermagui-Cobargo Eels upstaging Cooma 36-14 in the reserve grade fixture,” Gandon said.
Gandon said the result would have been closer in the top grade, but an injury list kept piling on woes for the visitors.
“The game was just two minutes old when when centre Daniel Smith left the field with concussion,” he said.
Eden still got the first points on the board with Joel Grewar finding space in the corner, but the kick faded to lead 4-0.
Cooma snuck to a 6-4 advantage after recovering a kick in the in-goal and then the woes for the Tigers continued with fullback Toby Whitehead off the field soon after with a shoulder injury.
Despite missing two key players, Brad Pocock put Eden back in front off a great pass from Greg Nicholson, but it would prove to be the last time Eden led.
In the 14th minute Eden lock Brad Pocock scored off a beautiful deft pass from five-eighth Greg Nicholson to regain the lead 8-6.
Cooma began a scoring frenzy to lead 36-8 at the break and dominate play in the second half to secure the 64-8 scoreline at the siren.
“The game ended on a sour note when Eden replacement forward Justin Swires was flattened from an alleged shoulder charge and head clash,” Gandon said.
He had to be taken to hospital with a gash and broken nose.
Gandon dryly said the Eden sheds resembled a casualty ward after the bruising affair and wished a quick recovery for all the players.
Even prior to play, the Tigers were already down captain-coach Jake Whitehead, Michael Wykes and John Aldridge.
“The Showground already looks to be a graveyard for visiting teams this year, especially in the cold and wet it’s hard to see any team defeating Cooma on its own patch,” he said.
After trailing 18-0 at the break, the Tigerettes rallied to match a 6-6 second half result. Ebony Dykoff-Darrington, Rebecca Gray, Kiarna Mitchell and Katrina Lackey were Eden's best.
Gray scored Eden's try and Mitchell converted.
And earlier in the under 18s, Eden's points came from a try each to Josh Brown and Kahleb Kebby and a conversion to Hayden Crofton.
Group 16 breaks for Easter and the Tigers’ next game will be against Narooma at Cobargo’s Narira Park on April 23.
