The 52-year-old was taken to Bega’s regional hospital suffering from lacerations to his scalp and left ear and rib fractures.
He remained in a stable condition on Wednesday.
The truck reportedly crashed and overturned as it descended a hill at 6.45pm, 450 metres north of Quinlans Rd at Cadjangarry south of Cobargo.
The highway was closed to traffic in both directions with the truck rolling and coming to rest across the road.
Diversions were put in place for light traffic, with the RMS recommending drivers head out to the Tathra-Bermagui Rd for travel between Bega and Cobargo.
Heavy vehicles were held at the site until the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Comments on social media indicated the road reopened to traffic around 1.30am, but police reported it was still closed at 7am. A later check by Livetraffic at 10am showed it had been given the all clear.
Investigations into the crash continue.
