Forestry Corporation of NSW forest protection manager Karel Zejbrlik said the firefighters were deployed to large fires mainly on private property near Wauchope and Gloucester on the Mid North Coast last week.
One of the most dangerous blazes was at Pappinbarra near Wauchope, where more than 1200 hectares was burnt and several homes were lost.
The team was instrumental in saving 45 homes and preventing large-scale damage.
“With the conditions we had last week, that fire could have been a whole lot worse if we weren’t in a position to quickly deploy crews and machinery to attack and extinguish fire outbreaks,” Mr Zejbrlik said.
The fires were now mostly contained following coordinated efforts by firefighters from Forestry Corporation, the Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW and the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
