Though a few handy drives up the fairway were also balanced with a good number of shanks into the rough as teams headed out for a four-ball ambrose.
A hilarious highlight included the the Steve Kennedy Memorial Award for the most amusing, unusual or outstanding event of the day.
Mark Spink accepted the award after a drive flew way off course and nearly tonked Sheldon Wykes, who was in his ute delivering food and refreshments around the course.
“I felt something whiz past my head, ding off the tray and land about 30 yards away,” Wykes shared with a laugh during the presentations.
The day featured former Eden Tigers coach and Men of League state manager Stuart Raper, alongside former Parramatta Eels winger Neville Glover and Eden legend Peter Kelly.
Mr Raper said he enjoyed his time with the Eden Tigers and looked forward to returning each year for the golf day. He thanked everyone who turned out for the day.
Mr Raper said the Men of League was not about supporting “league blokes”, but anyone in the league community who was in need. He said league-tag had been a huge part of growing the sport in many areas and Group 16 was a real powerhouse for women’s inclusion.
Meanwhile, incoming president for the Far South Coast Men of League Colin Clarke said the charity day was the biggest to date as numbers swelled to 112 players.
“The numbers are an increase of about 10 teams on last year’s event and that is really impressive, it’s growing,” Clarke said.
Clarke said he had taken on the role as the work of the Men of League foundation was something “close to his heart” and he wanted to help grow the influence of the local branch.
Nearly a dozen items went under the hammer ensuring thousands were raised on the day with Mr Glover providing his services as auctioneer and he said he enjoyed meeting people around the country while supporting the events.
Wykes thanked the ladies who slaved away in the canteen to prepare almost 120 lunches and continuing major sponsor Con Zurcas of the Eden Motor Group.
Mr Zurcas was unable to attend, but entered two teams of crew and phoned in auction bids, but also said has immensely proud to be a part of the yearly event.
Wykes also congratulated outgoing secretary and president Damian Kennedy and Terry Dickson, who have stepped back after six years of service at the helm.
He said the pair had been instrumental in building the reputation and success of the FSC branch and that it was pleasure to still have the pair involved in regular feature days.
