Organised by the Men of League Foundation’s Far South Coast committee, the day is a chance for everyone to get together and have a fun day on the golf course on January 8.
The day will also serve as a chance to help raise important funds for the Men of League Foundation and its work with the men, women and children of the rugby league community.
Men of League Foundation’s New South Wales State Manager and former Eden Tigers captain/coach Stuart Raper said the golf day is sure to be a success for the committee and encourages everyone in the Bega Valley who shares their love of rugby league to come along and participate.
“The Far South Coast Committee put on a great golf day every year to raise funds for the Foundation and this event will be a fun day out for everyone,” Stuart said.
“I’ll be there to have a hit, along with special guests Parramatta Eels legend Neville Glover, Origin front rower and Eden icon Peter Kelly and Eden legend Mark Brian.”
Mixed and women’s team are welcome on the day and there will also be prizes, raffles and an auction on the day.
Stuart said the funds raised from the day go to helping the Men of League Foundation to care for those from within the rugby league community who may have fallen on hard times and need some assistance.
“We help people with a range of services from visits to those who may be feeling socially isolated to household improvements and financial support,” he said.
He said the day itself provides a great opportunity to catch up with mates and club members to share a laugh and tell a few tales from the field.
A feature of the event has commonly been a friendly rivalry between the Bega Roosters and Eden Tigers clubs.
So far, the Roosters have proved stronger on the bowling greens, while the Tigers have taken the honours on the course.
However, Stuart is encouraging all local footy players and supporters to jump on board and help raise the much needed funds to support the league community.
“We hope to see lots of people out enjoying a day of golf with friends,” he said.
“If you can’t come along, but would like to support us, we’d love for you to join the Foundation. Members of the rugby league community can join at www.menofleague.com,” Stuart concluded.
The Men of League golf day will run on January 8 at the Eden golf course.
