Local young guns Zak Keogh of Pambula and Merimbula’s Jem Ryan took part in the Primary School Cricket competition over four days.
In an immense showing of talent, the team won all of its games including the final against Mackillop at the picturesque Glenn McGrath oval in Sutherland.
Zak captained the side of players selected from Wollongong south to Eden and west to Queanbeyan and Bowral, where he batted well at third on the order.
His efforts included a match-saving knock of 70 in the final to secure the team’s win, while Jem opened the bowling for the young squad.
Jem’s efforts with the ball have now seen him selected for NSW alongside Zak to take on SA, Victoria and WA
He also batted at number six for the carnival and remained not out for the entire four innings he played.
Both the boys will take part in a special training clinic in Sydney on January two.
There, they will be presented their Baggy Blue caps at the SCG during the Test against Pakistan.
Upon completion of their camp they will spend eight days playing Australia’s best at the PSSA National Carnival in Canberra.
An association spokesman said the boys have some serious fundraising to do in order to get to their training camp and carnival, and will be selling raffle tickets to fundraise.
“So if you see them around town selling a ticket or two please support them in the pursuit of one day turning the Baggy Blue into a Baggy Green,” the spokesman said.
