The Bega Gun Club played host to two major events last week.
Firstly the club held the final round of the Fimac Engineering Handicap Shield with the second big event the 40-target Southern Zone mixed championship.
Rounding out the program was a 30-target double barrel event shot from 15 metres and sponsored by the club.
A good field of 34 turned out with visitors from Bairnsdale, Goulburn and Cooma to add to local ranks.
Officials said the conditions were fine, but a shifting wind did play on the targets at times.
Shooters warmed up with the double barrel round where Bairnsdale visitor Frank Bagnato shot a flawless 30/30 to secure AA grade from runner-up Chris Davis.
In A grade Col Sheehan also cleaned the lot for a 30/30 score from runner-up Simon Buckley on 29/30.
In B grade,Tony Gray took the honours with Keith Pearce in second place. Christel Feldmann rolled the field in C grade to win with a score of 26/30 from Ray McLeod.
The Fimac Shield made the second round of the day and Bagnato ventured out for a shootoff with Tony Gray after both scored 24.
It took a further six targets to separate the pair with Bagnato winning on 30/31. Meanwhile, Four shooters shot off for third place with Kieth Pearce finally taking the prize, 40/43.
The final event was the Southern Zone 40-target Mixed Championship. Shooters faced four separate formats to test their abilities.
Phil Body showed the way in AA grade with a score of 59/60 from Bagnato on 57.
Shane Platts shot 56/60 to collect first in A grade from Steve McIntyre on 51.
Tony Gray’s 51/60 topped B grade just two targets ahead of runner-up Tim Collins on 49.
Meanwhile, Christel Feldmann made it two out of three for the day, winning C grade with a steady 45/60 with Brian Moffitt taking second.
Despite the strong rounds out of the grades, Chris Rowland swept the field with a perfect score to secure the Zone Mixed Target Championship.
Bagnato was named High Gun and Aaron Abbott won a meat tray in the shoot raffle. The scores for the Fimac were tallied and president Shane Platts congratulated Simon Buckley, scoring 88/100 across the four rounds.
The December shoot is the club’s annual Christmas shoot, featuring a lunch and plenty of fun. Everyone is invited to take part with practice at 9am and competition from 10am.
The club meets once a month and shoots at the Tarraganda range, new members are always welcome.
