Day for Daniel is a national day of action on child safety and protection. It is the largest child safety awareness day of its type in Australia.
Pre-registrations online are at record levels with in excess of 2400 schools. Business and event registrations are also strong.
“It is about having a bit of fun incorporating red, starting a conversation with your children about their personal safety and donating so we can continue to make a measurable difference to keep our kids safe,” Denise Morcombe said.
“It is also time to make a stand. Predators are online now talking to our kids. Some will have a criminal record and some won’t.
“The greatest defence alerting us of this danger and the greatest deterrent stopping abusers of our kids is to have a nationally coordinated, well managed, Public Accessible Sex Offenders Website,” she added.
Schools across the Bega Valley are getting involved this year, as they have previously.
On Thursday, both Eden Public School pupils and the junior school children at Sapphrie Coast Anglican College wore red.
While Bega, Tathra and Bermagui students were planning to dress in red en masse on Friday.
Also on Friday, Day for Daniel ambassador Melissa Pouliot will be manning a merhandise and information stall on Highlands Corner in Merimbula from 10am until 2pm.
