The club, having served the young (and not so young) for many decades across two centuries, is in grave danger of not functioning next year, 2017.
At a meeting on Monday, the immediate future of the club may be determined.
Having had two prior attempted meetings to form a committee, the club has been unable to do so.
While player participation has also dwindled in recent years, there are still those young people of our town who wish to play rugby league.
We, the townspeople, have an obligation to provide meaningful recreational activities for our youth.
Things have changed in our communities, and many activities have dwindled over recent years, but we must still strive to look after our future generation.
Sport has been an integral part of all communities, small and large.
It has provided healthy activity, among other things, for our boys and girls and young people. People seem to be busier, there are many more distractions in our modern world, but we should not let these things take us away from the real worthwhile activities, which are the heart and soul of our town, every town, for that matter.
A small, but hard working band of people, has struggled over the past few years to provide the support, facilities and administration necessary to get the teams on the paddock. The club’s sponsors and supporters have also played their role in the existence of the club. I guess we tend to take these parts of any sporting club for granted.
If you have been a part of the fine tradition of the Eden Tigers Rugby League Football Club, as a player or supporter, you could give something back to the club by stepping up to assist, or if you are an interested community member, concerned that we could lose another activity, that lies at the core of our community’s spirit and history, think seriously of coming along to the meeting Monday at the Eden Fishermen’s Club from 6.30pm and offer your services.
Don’t think that you can’t contribute - that you have nothing to offer, or you are too young or old to be of assistance. There are many tasks to be shared around that will ease the burden on a small overworked committee.
Your contribution and involvement would be much appreciated, however small it may be. There is no obligation to over commit yourself. You don’t have to know the offside rule or whether it’s a scrum or a penalty, it’s your assistance that is needed. Just give as much time that you can afford to the club.
