It was sarongs, scarves and bindis as around 60 representatives from the shire’s Voices, Information, Education for Women (VIEW) clubs and the Country Women’s Association gathered in Eden on Monday for a special Bollywood luncheon to celebrate VIEW’s 21st birthday.
Part of the Smith Family, VIEW raises money to help under-privileged children through school with their Learning for Life program and has 22,000 members across 400 clubs in Australia.
Monday’s birthday celebration guests included former Learning for Life support officer with the Smith Family Cathy Koukoumaftsis, who gave a talk about her experiences with the program.
“Our greatest wish is to have a Learning for Life scholarship in Eden,” she said. “Support for education in this shire is sorely needed and Learning for Life offers kids with low income money for books, uniforms, shoes, excursions and many other things.”
Guests enjoyed Indian cuisine prepared at the Lamplighter Restaurant, as well as well as an afternoon of entertainment.
