As part of the museum’s new Junior Guides Program, six Eden Marine High School students were assessed on Wednesday, September 21, and to the delight of the assessor Susie Sarah, they all passed with flying colours. 

“This is all about encouraging young people to do this sort of work in the community,” Ms Sarah said. “We want them to feel a part of something important in town.”

Year 7 student Ben Neville said he hopes to volunteer at the museum during the school holidays. 

“I thought participating in the guides program would be an interesting way to learn more about the local area and its history,” Ben said. 

In order to pass their final assessment the students had to conduct a mock tour and answer a series of commonly asked questions. 

Ms Sarah said this is the same test all adult guides take.

“They studied pages of notes in preparation, but gee they were great, they all know their stuff.”
