Leone Fairweather, a resident and ratepayer of 44 years, said the signatures would be added to a petition that will be passed to John R Whyman Funeral services of Bega.
The petition is marked for the attention of Bega MP Andrew Constance.
“Living in a small community, with only one weekly newspaper, has meant that many local residents have missed attending funerals of residents, since the removal of this community service,” Ms Fairweather said.
“I have heard it said that, ‘If you are a friend, you will know when someone dies’ and "Why don't you Google It?’,” she said.
“Both these responses show callous disregard for the fact that in a small community, many folk may not be your personal friends, but you may feel that their contribution to their community warrants the paying of last respects.
“Plus, why would you Google first thing in the morning when you can turn on the radio and listen to items of local news, including funeral announcements?”
She thanked people for their support.
