It was all apart of the school’s PBL day which celebrates positive behaviour for learning and involved a day of activities and a school wide performance of The Cup Song.
The Cup Song is a version of the 1931 Carter Family song "When I'm Gone", usually performed a cappella with a cup used to provide percussion. It became very popular after Anna Kendrick performed the song in the movie Pitch Perfect.
After weeks of practice, each student from Years 7-11 was handed a plastic cup before they broke out in a fantastic rendition of the song with impressive vocals from music students.
This was just one of the highlights of the day in which relieving principal Leesa Wungluck said was a huge success and a great way for the kids to have a break from their studies.
The students and staff were all encouraged to dress up as something starting with the letter P, B or L.
This year the school decided to focus on creating and maintaining healthy relationships and promoting the school values of respect, responsibility and resilience.
The day commenced with PBL focused lessons where students had the opportunity to discuss with their peers what constitutes healthy relationships.
PBL games were the focus of periods three and four where students used their team work skills to work together to achieve common goals. Students thoroughly enjoyed themselves rotating through activities such as Tanks, Toxic Waste, Relays, Scavenger Hunts and Pasta Structures.
Lunch consisted of a friendly staff vs. students’ game of volleyball and a sausage sizzle.
After lunch the entire school gathered on the oval to come together and spell out one of the key school values; resilience.
The school gave out fantastic prizes to the best dressed students which were Travis Radford who was dressed as a politician – looking suspiciously like Malcolm Turnbull carrying around his ‘Jobs and Growth’ sign – and Claudia Mitchell who was dressed as Pippi Longstocking.
Eden Marine High would like to thank the following local businesses who very kindly donated prizes to their PBL day, Merimbula Surf Shop, the Compleat Angler, Tackle World, Top Fun, Wild Rye Bakery, Merimbula Newsagency, Merimbula Jewellers, Smarty Pants, Boardwalk Gelataria and Espresso and Ginger and Luvvy Boutique.
