So much so that over the past few years, Alf and his wife – club treasurer Gail – have sponsored a 100-target ball trap championship event.
Escaping the wind and rain from Saturday, officials said Sunday’s conditions were great for the day and a good field of 18 shooters turned up to tackle the clays.
Shot in four groups of 25, after round one, super veteran, John Seide led the field and B grade with a score of 24/25.
Meanwhile, Cooma regular Steve McIntyre had 23/25 to head the A grade field and second overall.
Simon Buckley tallied up 21/25 to lead C grade from Michael Diss and Brian Moffitt, both on 18/25.
At the halfway mark, Steve McIntyre had gained a one point lead 45/50 over John Seide 43, and Simon Buckley 42.
Equal second in A grade were Charlie Smith and Alf Niesar both with 38/50. Keith Pearce held down second in B Grade with a score of 42/50, whilst Mick Diss held second on C Grade with 36/50.
Round three saw Steve McIntyre maintain a one target lead, closely followed by John Seide and Simon Buckley for overall.
In the grades, Zip Summerell was tied in second place in B Grade with Craig Bishop. Second in C Grade was Michael Diss and Charlie Smith still held second in A Grade. With so many close scores, the final round was going to be vital.
The overall winner after round four had to be decided by a shoot off between Simon Buckley and Steve McIntyre, after both finished with a score of 85/100.
A brief shoot off of four targets saw Simon emerge the winner,89/104.
McIntyre settled for A grade title with a score of 85/100 with Charlie Smith taking second on 81/100.
B Grade went to veteran John Siede, with Keith Pearce taking second spot after a two target shoot off with Zip Summerell, 88/102.
C Grade went to Mick Diss with a score of 69/100 from Roscoe Hartley, 65/100.
The shoot raffle $500 or a meat tray was won by Alf Niesar who graciously accepted the meat tray and left the money for next month.
As this was the final year of Alf and Gail’s sponsorship, the Club members would like to express their sincere thanks for their support, over and above their usual club contribution.
Officials said sponsorship is essential to the club and their support has been greatly appreciated.
Next month the club’s program consists of two 50-target events.
There will be a double barrel and a point-score round with organisers hoping to see you there.
Members are reminded of the annual meeting to be held after practice Sunday on September 18 at 12.30pm with the meeting to be held at Shane and Tracy’s.
