Michael Menager went all the way to LA to record his latest album “Not the Express” and assembled an all-star cast - Jim Keltner on drums (Ry Cooder, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams), Aaron Ambry on keys (Jane’s Addiction, Avi Buffalo), Canberra’s Matt Nightingale on upright bass (Hoddle, Black Mountain String Band, Den Hanrahan) and acclaimed local singer- songwriter Heath Cullen on guitar (who also produced this album).
Michael Menager’s music is brimming with an alt-country Americana feel, with poignant songs about love, loss and the wisdom of a man who’s lived a thousand lives.
Born in Southern California to migrant parents - a Northern Italian mother who passed along her cooking skills, and a French Canadian father - Menager sang his way through coffee houses and bars in various parts of the States and Europe in his younger years, accompanied by his vintage Gibson guitar.
So lay a nickel on the track, and expect a special day of reverie with songs and stories amongst friends, with a flavour akin to that of an early John Prine, Guy Clarke, or Randy Newman.
Michael Menager will perform at Sprout Café, 134 Imlay St, Eden on Sunday, September 4 from 1-3pm. This is a free event.
