Cruise Eden manager Natalie Godward said Eden’s cruise ship season will double this year, with 14 ships scheduled to visit the port between November 2016 and March 2017.
“The economic value of this season’s visitation to Eden is estimated to be $6.4million,” Ms Godward said on Monday.
“And that’s just the tip of the iceberg for the long term, with the ‘future proof’ wharf extension already underway.”
Ms Godward said more tour guides are needed to keep up with the demand for shore tours and experiences to showcase our local region, and is undertaking a recruitment drive.
“Successful applicants will be employed in paid positions with an essential role of helping to deliver a premium regional port experience in Australia,” Ms Godward said.
“It’s really important we showcase our region properly. Not only does it result in positive feedback and more ships visiting the port, but it also allows us a greater opportunity of passengers returning for a holiday.”
Ms Godward said social media shared by passengers also helps promote the region, and influences others to book a holiday too.
With first impressions important, the hunt for ship-shape tour guides is a big priority for Cruise Eden.
“Applicants with previous experience or qualifications will be looked upon favourably, however this isn’t a mandatory requirement to apply for a position,” Ms Godward said.
“We’re looking for people who have a passion for the area, and would like to be part of the growing cruise and broader tourism industry in Eden and Sapphire Coast,” Ms Godward said.
Anyone interested is encouraged to apply.
In addition to tour guides, Cruise Eden also needs volunteers to be part of the welcome team posted around town liaising with passengers.
Interested people are asked to send a one page CV to Natalie Godward at cruise@sapphirecoast.com.au
Applications close September 7.
