After a draft review of the Bega Valley Shire’s aquatic facilities was released recently, Valley residents quickly went into bat for their local pool, demanding none be shut down, while encouraging upgrades and reduced entry fees.
The draft report is on public exhibition until August 29, and the council is urging all those with opinions to have their say through the official channel so they can be considered by the consultants when preparing their final report to council.
Media representatives were invited to a briefing on the draft report with BVSC manager of leisure and recreation John Grady on Friday.
He said decisions on valuable council assets such as pools were not made lightly, and input from the community and pool user groups was essential in getting the best information in front of the decision-makers.
“People’s expectations have changed a lot and the service level we’re expected to provide has increased considerably,” Mr Grady said.
“A lot goes into running a pool and good information leads to good decisions.”
Submissions on the draft aquatic facilities review can be made via email to council@begavalley.nsw.gov.au, or sent to General Manager, PO Box 492, Bega 2550. The full draft review and details for making a submission are available via the Your Say page on the BVSC website, begavalley.nsw.gov.au.
