The Think.Eat.Save event saw celebrated local chef Paul West of River Cottage Australia and REAP volunteers work together to serve up a delicious vegetable curry made from donated food.
Aside from the free meal, the highlight of the event was an interesting discussion between the event’s brains trust about ways to encourage people to eat traditional Australian foods.
Award winning indigenous author Bruce Pascoe of Mallacoota spoke passionately about the uses of kangaroo grass and the ways in which Indigenous food sources were ignored when the British invaded.
"You can’t eat our food if you can’t swallow our history,” Mr Pascoe said.
Meals on Wheels
The Eden Meals on Wheels roster for the week starting Monday August 1, is: Monday, June Whalley and Judy Bateman; Tuesday, Jan and John Polak; Wednesday, Maureen Walker and Ena Anderson; Thursday, Sue Kelly and Flo Young; and Friday, Judy Day and Valma Barber.
Whale Museum
The History of Whale Bone in Fashion with be presented by guest speaker and costumer Kelly Rowe at the Eden Killer Whale Museum on Saturday, July 30 at 2pm. All are welcome to the free event with afternoon tea served afterwards.
Save the Date
Eden Marine High School P&C is staging an Outdoor Movie Night at the school on Friday, September 16. This family friendly and alcohol free event will be the P&C's major fundraiser for the year and profits will go to supporting student programs at Eden Marine High.
Stalls selling food and drinks will be open from 5pm, and in the event of rain, the hall will be available.
Bring a chair or picnic rug to watch the main feature on the big screen and watch the winning short film from South East Arts' YoofTube Youth Film Festival.
Tickets go on sale in mid August, and early bird bookings will be in the running to win a 'Gold Class Experience' - with a comfy sofa, beanbags and food and drinks.
