Ms Palmer visited one of Norfolk Island's most popular tourist attractions, the award-winning Fletcher’s Mutiny Cyclorama, a 360-degree, 3D panorama of the infamous Mutiny on the Bounty which led to the settlement of the island.
Back in Eden, Ms Palmer floated the idea of a cyclorama depicting Eden’s historical journey to the present day inside the soon-to-be-refurbished Hotel Australasia building at a recent Eden Chamber of Commerce meeting.
"Norfolk Island's cyclorama was so stunning I went back three times," Ms Palmer said, adding that she believed there were only six such cycloramas in the world. “It’s a fabulous tourist attraction and if Eden had the seventh it would be pretty amazing.”
“It would inject money into the town, especially from cruise ship visitors, and also provide employment opportunities both in the construction stage and in its operation.”
Ms Palmer said she was unsure as to whether the old building was suited to the cyclorama.
Chamber of Commerce president Jenny Robb said that while Ms Palmer’s presentation was short it was an idea that the chamber supported in principle.
Ms Robb suggested that the best way forward would be for the Hotel Australasia Group – the body behind the push to see the old hotel restored to its former glory – to discuss the idea with Bega Valley Shire Council.
Council was currently seeking expressions of interest into what could be developed within the building and on site, she said.
“Chamber would be keen to lend support, it looks like a great idea on the Norfolk Island website,” she said.
Hotel Australasia Group chairman Peter Whiter also said the cyclorama looked like a “good idea”.
One of the most famous cycloramas in the world is inside the Museum of the American Civil War in Pennsylvania.
