Don’t force us to drink ‘poison’ in our water
Until a few weeks ago I was not aware that fluoride, which the Bega Valley Shire Council want to add to our drinking water, is a neuro toxin and is linked to almost every disease and medical condition one can think of … diabetes, cardio-vascular, spine and bone problems, arthritis, kidney failure, autism, alzheimers and cancer just to name a few.

Thanks to the Clean Water For Life seminars held in Bermagui, Merimbula, Eden and Bega, those of us who attended have had our eyes opened and been enlightened. These seminars were organised by Merimbula dentist Dr Maria Claudianos and her dedicated team of volunteers.
At present, our water supply is clean non-fluoridated and one of the best in NSW. But the NSW government plans to impose water fluoridation onto the remaining three water supplies of the Bega Valley, which will affect 14 towns and villages.
Fluoride is a toxic waste product of the giant super phosphate industry which is sold to governments to put into people’s drinking water. Unbelievable isn’t it but sadly it’s true.
Professor Paul Connett, USA, and Dr Geoffrey Pain, Victoria, both environmental scientists, spoke at length about the toxic effects of fluoride when added to drinking water and Dr Claudianos talked about the “sugar effect” on teeth and showed us programs some countries, including Scotland and Denmark, have adopted to promote dental health which don’t use fluoride. Most of western Europe’s drinking water is fluoride free as well as many other countries in the world.
Unless we as a ocommunity protest against it, the BVSC will be allowed to literally pour poison down our throats by adding fluoride to our drinking water.

Main street seating needed
Bega Valley Shire Council has done a wonderful job with the maintenance of the main street and Eden has become a healthier town.
But there is a problem of the main street having no seats. People with disabilities and the elderly would like somewhere to sit other than inside/outside of cafes. Is there plans for for seating in Eden Main Street? And also will there be more disabled parking spots made available?

Green gripes
I was not surprised by the comments made by the Greens party candidate of Eden-Monaro (Magnet, June 16). The only certainty in politics in the last 20 years has been the Greens political posturing about the future of the native forest industry.
If the industry is so bad, why has the relocation of a second threatened species from the supposedly wood chip ravaged forests of Eden recently taken place, to reintroduce southern brown bandicoots to the Booderee National Park?
As usual, the Greens candidate can’t get basic facts correct. The Eden RFA does not terminate in 2017, try August 2019. Given the Greens passion for things organic, could their candidate also explain why the Greens Party continue to campaign for the closure of the largest organic production system in Australia?

Waste not, want not
Instead of waiting for our politicians to make decisions for the next century, we ourselves can act now.
Apart from the choice what to eat, we also have the choice of what and how much we buy, print, drive, heat and throw away.
Advertisements and propaganda have caused mankind to overindulge without a second thought about our environment.
I believe we can do better.
