For Mikayla, education and training is about pursuing her passion, finding a career that connected with her interests.
“When it came to making a decision about what career I wanted to do, I chose something I enjoyed doing.
“I’ve loved baking since I was little girl. I spent so much time in the kitchen with my grandmother, who was a pastry chef in Greece, so it’s in my blood. Although I never thought it would take me to where I am today.”
That decision was clearly the right one for Mikayla, who has gone on to achieve countless accolades, including being named the 2014 National Apprentice Pastry Chef and receiving the Certificate of Excellence in the 2015 World Asia Pacific Pastry Cup.
Mikayla is now encouraging the public to be open to the opportunities of education and training – whether it be to start new career or to change the direction of their lives at Choices Day on Saturday 4 June, 9am to 12pm at TAFE Illawarra Bega.
TAFE Illawarra’s Relieving Institute Director, Belinda Mackinnon, says: “Choices Day gives the community a chance to explore courses on offer in Semester 2, 2016 and enrol.
“It’s a great way for people to seek career advice from our expert staff, enrol and get helpful information on how to study now, pay later with VET FEE-HELP student loans or see if they are eligible for fee-free study options.”
Visitors can explore their course options across a range of career areas including Aged Care, Business, Commercial Cookery, Early Childhood Education and Care, Events, Foundation Skills, Hospitality, Tourism and Travel.
There will be information on options to get qualified faster and at a lower cost with Recognition of Prior Learning.
Visitors to Choices Day can also get assistance with creating a USI (Unique Student Identifier), which all future students must have before enrolling.
