A working bee of volunteers on Monday helped get the grounds ready and now all that’s left are the finishing touches and St George’s Uniting Church in Eden will be ready to party.

The little clay brick church in Chandos Street has two reasons to celebrate this weekend, firstly, it is the church’s 150th anniversary and secondly, it is the 10^th anniversary of the Garden of Eden Community project. 

The church is the second oldest church building in NSW to have had continuous worship services since it was dedicated in 1866.

It began its life as a Presbyterian church and is the oldest original church building on NSW's south coast.

Pastor Pam Skelton said many people had connections to the church including through its worship services, Sunday school and youth group.

"Many Eden people remain connected to the church and the community garden project, and its community lunch and strong band of volunteers make it a vital community centre," Pastor Skelton said.

Excitement is mounting for the weekend’s celebrations The whole community is invited and everyone is encouraged to bring old photographs, memorabilia or documents.

Pastor Skelton said the event is all about meeting up with old friends and making new ones whilst also having fun and sharing memories. 

“We are happy to celebrate this the 150th anniversary of the opening of St George's,” she said.

“We really like the simple beauty of this building, inside and out, and recognise its significance as  part of the cultural heritage of Eden. 

“However, more so, we love the people. Many have called this place their spiritual home, not just those who have worshipped within the four walls but those in the garden and community who have also celebrated in different ways the inclusive message of Christ,” she said.
