Far South Coast entered four sides in the contest with three boys teams and one girls squad, but conquered all across each of the divisions for a whitewash victory.
The under 13s went to the backhalf of the competition sharing the top of the table after a well-fought round in Goulburn two weeks earlier.
Spokeswoman for the team Lily Tomas said highlights included a great volley from Nick, two long strikes from Jim and a hat-trick by Blake.
“Paddy’s efforts in goal were both brave and confidence-boosting, while Eddie demonstrated strength and dedication with his non-stop runs down the wing,” Tomas said.
The team had taken some dominant wins over Eurobodalla, Goulburn and the Highlands, but a 3-3 draw with Cooma and a 2-1 loss to Shoalhaven had the team ready for rematches on opposition turf.
The boys went against Euro first over the weekend. “While the boys pressed hard, it was only in the second half the Coasties found the net with two goals to Blake, including a fancy solo effort worthy of a Madonna dance and a Maradona run,” Tomas said.
However, officials joked that some Coast fans “should have gone to spec savers”, cheering after a kick hit the side of the goal net. “What the dedicated legion of fans lacked in foreign accents they certainly made up for with rousing cheers,” she said.
Next up was the Highlanders and the FSC was on the back foot early trailing 2-0.
Hunter fired a shot on goals that looked messy, but somehow spiralled past the goalie before Tomas missed what she said “was sure to be the goal of the tournament” while eating some lunch, putting the team back in the hunt.
“By the final game fatigue was setting in on both sides with earlier matches taking a lot out of the boys, but Mali still kept surfing his way up the middle and Brayden and Emile found much-needed speed on the wings,” Tomas said.
Fyn and Sean were indomitable through the middle for the FSC to win 6-3. After losing to the Shoalhaven earlier, the rematch became a must-win for the boys and they did not disappoint.
Tomas said the Shoalhaven defence was tough, but the “Twin Zacs” cannon-balled their opponents on the flanks to combine with the big boot of Ben and the hard head of Hunter to keep Shoalhaven scoreless.
The team’s two goals were met with thunderous cheers from the fans as a win in the game ensured the team’s top spot to win the branch championships.
