It was fantastic to see the completion of this piece of infrastructure after a long and protracted period.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Eden for their unstinting support in seeing this addition to our community’s facilities.
Many people have contributed to the successful completion of this project and the community can be justly proud of the ‘have a go’ attitude that saw its finalisation.
Special mention must be made of the ESSCI group who do so much for the town; friend Ossie Cruse and Twofold Aboriginal Land Council for their input and support; Robert Michelin and Sons for their professional work in the construction of the track; Clyde Thomas for his willingness to grant access across his land and the members of the Eden Foreshore Committee come Landcare Group who kept plugging on for so long.
Our community has another asset. Without the support of said community it would never have happened.
Congratulations to one and all.

Support for Snug marina
I am writing on behalf of the members of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA), the home of the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht race, and the many owners, skippers and crews of past competitions to again confirm our support got the construction of a safe harbour in Snug Cove in the Port of Eden.
We understand that Snug Cove is officially classified as unsafe for small vessels by Roads and Maritime Services.
However for boat owners and skippers regularly sailing the NSW coast, the significance of Eden as an important port of call cannot be over emphasised.
Eden is:
- Last all weather port for yachtsmen to access before entering Bass Strait;
- First port of call after crossing the strait from Tasmania;
- First port of call from ports to the west in Victoria and South Australia;
- The only destination for hundreds of kilometres to seek shelter from in the type of weather this part of the world is notorious for;
- Ideally located for crew changes, rest and relaxation, taking on supplies, undertaking repairs (including slipway access) and visiting local tourist attractions if there were safe mooring conditions.
Instead, cruising yachts have to avoid Eden if southerly weather is forecast, not wishing to be caught moored to a Snug Cove wharf in a southerly gale or leave it as long as possible to make a port call for medical assistance, repairs or supplies.
Without a safe harbour and marina, the people of Eden, and the local economy, are missing out on many more visits and longer stays by those regularly sailing the NSW coast and visits and stays by the many cruising yachts who would be attracted by the improved harbour and facilities.
The CYCA is very grateful to the people of Eden for their assistance and hospitality which our members have received over many years.
We therefore ask Infrastructure and Transport Minister Andrew Constance and Roads, Mairitime and freight Minister Duncan Gay to proceed with the construction of a safe harbour and marina in Snug Cove as part of the overall development of the port.
