The senior teams followed the Junior Devils games against Moruya-Tuross and it was great to have all our town’s league players on the same oval.
However, the ultimate prize was stolen by the Bega Roosters first grade team, who proved too good on the day for the Narooma Devils coming away winners 40 points to 14, backed-up by the strong Bega Chicks ladies’ league tag team, who defeated Narooma 18-nil.
Luckily there was a high spot to the day with the Narooma reserve grade snatching a 24-22 win in the last second of the match.
The ball spun out to big Clayton Foster, who fired a brilliant long pass to a flying Tyson Hastie, who plunged over in the corner to snatch a fantastic win 24-22.
Reserves triumph
After going close last week at Cooma the ressies broke through with a courageous win over Bega.
Tries to Rhys Pearcey and Ryan Norris saw the Devils ahead 10-6 at half-time, but despite a sharp try to half-back Gus Wilton, with only five minutes remaining Bega had established a comfortable 22-14 lead.
Then big Sean Stenhouse launched himself through the defence to cut the lead to just four points after Koorin Campbell’s conversion.
From the kick-off Narooma worked upfield and following a Bega mistake were in possession ten metres out with one minute to go.
The ball spun out to big Clayton Foster, who fired a brilliant long pass to a flying Tyson Hastie, who plunged over in the corner to snatch a fantastic win 24-22.
Best for the Devils were Rhys Pearcey, Joey Scrymgeour, Clayton Foster, Matty Swaddling and Gus Wilton. Well done boys.
Gallant in defeat
Despite playing very well the Narooma ladies’ league tag team could not get the better of the very talented Bega Chicks, going down 18-nil.
The Chicks are an experienced and well-drilled team and a very young team Narooma did well to hold them to only four tries.
Best of the Narooma girls were Lilly Bennett, Tayla Butcher, Shelby Johnson, Janaija Parsons and Finn Dibden.
Lots of success will come to this team this year.
Next Sunday the Devils take on the premiers Moruya at Ack Weyman, Moruya.
It will be another top day of footy so come along and support our players.
The She-Devils can overtake the Sharkettes and leap into a semi-finals position if it defeats Moruya as it has the third-equal best point difference in the league after two rounds.
Moruya’s first grade side carries good form following the return of injured players and a 62-10 win against Bombala. The Sharks’ premiership-winning reserve grade side won its first game of the season, 36-4, against Bombala.
