Organisers are excited to host what they’re calling “the biggest and best weekend of racing on the Sapphire Coast” when the two-day Bega Cheese Cup Carnival runs at the Sapphire Coast Turf Club on February 6 and 7.
A range of fun activities will be on offer to entertain the crowd across the weekend, but turf club secretary/manager Rob Tweedie said a highlight would certainly be the “gallop relay”.
“Saturday will feature a six by 100 metre gallop relay, which will see teams of runners from local sporting clubs sprinting to win their share in $1000 for their club,” Tweedie said.
“The gallop is designed to promote and support our local sporting clubs and create great excitement.”
“The Sapphire Coast Turf Club is donating $500 to the local sports club of both the winning female team and the winning male team,” he said.
There will be rival clubs and codes taking part so is sure to be a hotly contested even and a great spectacle.
All registered sporting clubs are invited to enter a relay team, which must be made of up of six runners, who will each sprint 100 metres.
Tweedie said it is imperative that entrants wear their club colours for the race.
The relay will start on the 600 metre mark of the racecourse with the final runner to cross the post.
Registrations close on January 27, to enter call 6494 1889 or email sapphireracing@bigpond.com.
