Princes Highway reopened ahead of strong winds

Motorists heading south are urged to travel with caution after falling trees closed the Princes Highway today (Friday) and a strong southerly change expected this evening.

Mallacoota Police said a car was impacted by a falling tree and the highway was closed for several hours between Genoa and Orbost at around noon today.

The highway was reopened at 3.30pm.

Storm damage has also closed the Monaro Highway in Victoria.

The area is experiencing Increasing northwesterly winds ahead of a cold front expected to move through southeastern New South Wales Friday night.

Damaging winds around 50 km/h with peak gusts of 90 km/h are forecast for the South Coast, along with the Snowy Mountains forecast district, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Riverina and Australian Capital Territory.
