Creative kids say thanks

The Eden Whale Festival is just around the corner and Eden Child Care Centre teachers and children are getting very excited about sharing their new festival creation with the community.

Pre-school teacher Casey Green said the centre’s festival project has been given a great boost thanks to a recent donation of paint from Eden Mitre 10.

“We would like to say a big thank you to Eden Mitre 10 for their charitable donation of paint to help us,” she said.

“We are so grateful that we are part of such a caring and supportive community!”

Creative community members can also be a part of the festival through sculpture and photography competitions.

Sculpture competition Trashformation highlights this year’s focus on marine pollution by setting the standard that the sculpture must demonstrate the re-use of materials that would otherwise be considered waste.

Entries can be practical, beautiful, big (photos can be submitted) or small and will remain the property of the entrant.

Winners will be treated from a generous prize pool with first place awarded $500, second $250, student $150, people’s choice $250 and school $100 with a visit from the Sapphire Coast Marine Discovery Centre.

There are two photography competitions online and print.

Print competition Marine Moments is open to youth (under 18) and has an open division for adults.

Photographs must be taken by the entrant in the past two years and should be no bigger than 20cm by 30 cm (A4).

Entries close October 25 and there are great prizes on offer.

The online photography competition, What Eden Means To You, will be run live on Facebook with the winners decided via votes.

The photographs will be uploaded to the Eden Whale Festival’s Facebook page on Friday, October 12 and the photograph with the most ‘likes’ on Saturday, October 27 at 4pm will be declared the winner.

First prize is a $60 voucher to Fletchers Fotographics, Bega.
