Mr Castrissios has owned and operated the Eden IGA for five years, and said leaving the business brought “mixed emotions”.
“We love the town and love the people,” Mr Castrissios told the Magnet.
“But I’m tired. The Imlay Street reconstruction works have affected us greatly. It will be good when it’s done, but we need to take a break.”
Mr Castrissios said he plans to remain in Eden, and encourages everyone to continue to “buy local and stay beautiful”.
“I’d like to thank everyone who supported me in the time I was here and I hope they will keep up the support for Sandeep.”
Mr Sandeep is from Melbourne, and owns a number of businesses with partner Anish Singla.
Mr Sandeep is moving his family permanently to Eden to take up his post in the supermarket, with aspirations to improve the business into the future.
“We want to live local and work local,” Mr Sandeep said.
“I want to employ more Eden people and expand the business. We will introduce more stock, and more fresh produce direct from big wholesalers in Sydney and Melbourne.”
Thirteen crew members from Abacus Stocktaking Services were inside the supermarket today. General manager Craig Beaton explained it was a necessary step towards a smooth hand-over.
“We did a formal count of all the stock in a way that suits both vendor and purchaser so they can agree on the value of the stock in the store,” Mr Beaton said.
“This stock count is typically done by an external agency like us, so everyone is happy.”
The supermarket was sold for an undisclosed amount, with Mr Sandeep taking over the reins immediately.
