The Bluedogs posted a small total of 125 after a quick finish to the lower order against the Tathra Sea Eagles at Lawrence Park.
Toby Keath provided a solid start for the visiting side, compiling 25 runs as opener for the Bluedogs.
However, batting partner Joseph Maloney was caught behind by keeper Rob Stevenson for just three runs.
Kieran Allen scored eight runs, but was then caught by the Tathra fielders.
Kye Lygon made a solid middle order stand with an impressive 46 runs before he was caught out by the Tathra captain Adam Blacka.
Lygon and Keath were caught one after the other, but had pushed the Bluedogs ahead to 98 runs with a handful of wickets in hand.
Unfortunately, the Tathra bowling line-up quickly accounted for the remaining batsmen to keep the Bluedogs quiet at the crease.
Jack Baker chipped in a solid peformance of 19 runs, but the tail order collapsed behind him, to cut the run rate.
Charlie Baker was stumped out of the crease and things began to look dire for the visiting side.
Big-hitters Tom Hammond and Kye Overend were both done in for ducks at the bottom end.
Hammond was caught by a stunning dive from Chris Dwyer, while Overend was clean bowled by Blacka.
Lewis Hopkins was on just two runs, but ran out of batting partners as the Bluedogs’ order wrapped up quickly in just under 30 overs.
The Bluedogs had a small reprieve in the field when they got their own back on Dwyer.
He was caught by Maloney with just one run on the board.
Unfortunately for the Bluedogs, Blacka made short work of the run chase, belting four sixes on his way to 94 runs.
His haul also included 13 fours in an explosive showing that you might expect from a Twenty20 match.
Blacka was finally brought undone by a Hammond catch, but the Sea Eagles had edged 120 runs when he was dismissed.
Geordie Gibbs and Cody Hazelgrove-Danvers took the crease and steadily closed out the run chase to finish on 130 to secure Tathra the win.
The Bluedogs will be out for redemption when the second round plays this weekend.
The Pambula side will face Eden at the Eden Cricket Ground on Saturday from 1pm in a one-dayer format.
The B grade competition will also launch on the weekend.
The B grade Bluedogs will play at Bodalla on Saturday against the South Eurobodalla Pirates.
