“Obviously if you dig a hole and it rains you can’t pour concrete into it,” project coordinator, Sue Matthews, told the Eden Magnet on Thursday September 24. “But we’re now working fast to make up the time we lost.”
Ms Matthews said the contractors are still working towards the completion time frame set by the Bega Valley Shire Council, but said the original contract always had provisions for bad weather.
“We can’t set a solid date because we can’t tell what the weather will do,” Ms Matthews said. “But we’re still hoping and planning for everything to be up and running for Christmas.”
Over the past week, a concreting team has focused on completing the footpath from Eden Realty to the post office. Meanwhile a demolition crew is working on storm water pipes in the post office driveway, and at the front of Eden Realty and Georgies’.
“The site fence will start to come down on the post office side of the street except directly in front of Hotel Australasia,” Ms Matthews said. “Parking and traffic flow will remain the same until all concrete has been poured on the Eden Realty corner. Once this is finished, parking at that end of the street will return to normal.”
