“As a requirement under Part V of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, the Review of Environmental Factors has addressed all environmental matters likely to be affected by the wharf extension project.” Mr Constance said.
Environmental factors include water quality, sea conditions (waves and tides), climate change, flora and fauna communities, dredging and sediment quality, traffic management, port operations, air quality and the acoustic environment.
A specialist marine environment consultant was engaged to ensure that all investigations were completed using current best practise methods and to the fullest extent possible.
The REF is on exhibition until September 18, with comments encouraged to be submitted to: enquiries@crownland.nsw.gov.au
It is available in hard copy at all Bega Valley Shire libraries, at council chambers and on-line at http://www.begavalley.nsw.gov.au/
Mr Constance said the $15 million breakwater wharf extension project would increase economic activity during the construction phase and support increased visitation of cruise vessels once completed in 2017.
