Applications are sought from community organisations, schools, charities, volunteers and individuals who make a contribution to the Bega Valley Shire.
Mumbulla Foundation chairman Gary Potts said the Foundation’s philosophy is summed up in its slogan, Give where you live.
“The Foundation raises funds throughout the year to promote community well-being and these are returned to the community in the form of grants to small groups for social, environmental and cultural activities within the Bega Valley Shire,” Mr Potts said.
“By giving locally your investment benefits the whole community.
“And what’s more, you can double your donation because every dollar raised by the Mumbulla Foundation is matched by our partner, the Bega Valley Shire Council,” he said.
Last year the foundation made possible 36 grants ranging from $700 to $7500.
These funded a trip to Sydney for a group of primary school students; construction of an outdoor area at a preschool; rescue equipment for the Bega District Volunteer Rescue Association; tools for the Eden and Merimbula Men’s Sheds; and art and music workshops for disabled and mental health patients of the Workability Trust, among many other initiatives.
“For 15 years the Mumbulla Foundation has been the quiet achiever, relying on many dedicated volunteers who have committed their time and effort to fundraising,” Mr Potts said.
“Our board members agree it’s now time to raise the profile of the foundation and our sponsors so we can increase the dollar value of grants and build on our past achievements.
“The new look board is made up of professionals with a wide range of expertise, both in the private and public sectors.
“We have a ‘can do’ attitude and are determined to make the Mumbulla Foundation the charity of choice for both private and business supporters who want to make a tangible difference in the community,” he said.
Applications for grants are open now and close at 5pm on September 17.
