Bega Valley Shire Council will hold a community meeting on Wednesday, September 9, about the future of the Hotel Australasia.
It will be at Eden Fishermen’s Recreation Club between 5.30pm-7pm.
Council general manager, Leanne Barnes, confirmed that council had met with Australasia developer, Rodney Thompson, last week to progress the possibility of council acquiring the hotel.
The community meeting will be one of two days of opportunities for Eden residents to find out the latest on major developments in the town, including the redevelopment of the harbour and the Australasia.
On Monday, September 7, from 4pm-8pm, a community information session highlighting developments surrounding the harbour will be held at the Eden Fishermen’s Recreation club.
A variety of stakeholders including the council, Department of Primary Industries, Port Authority of NSW and Eden Chamber of Commerce will be at the information session, providing the community with the opportunity to ask questions and share their views.
On Wednesday, September 9, the council will be at Eden Fishermen’s Recreation Club to host the first of the spring season council roving workshops.
Community members are invited to join councillors and council staff for a Q&A session from 4pm–5pm.
From 5.30pm-7pm, the community meeting will be held at the same venue to open up the conversation on the future of Hotel Australasia.
Ms Barnes said the information session and roving workshop were great opportunities for the Eden community to hear from a wide range of stakeholders on a number of issues.
"Council will be there to share information and, most importantly, to listen to what the community has to say,” she said.
