Have you been down near the bay lately and seen some splashes as birds dive headlong into the water?

I've seen this sight quite a few times and it never ceases to amaze me how the gannets just seem to keep diving and then flap out of the water, rise and do it again and again.
As I was watching recently I considered how they have to keep focussed on what they are doing, all the time.
The gannets aren’t putting on a show of their diving expertise just for the benefit of those of us who might be watching.
No, they are exercising their special skill in order to get a feed.
What if they were distracted and looked somewhere else when they should have looked at their target?
Yes, they’d miss and there would be a great waste of energy on something that was incidental to the whole business.
There’s a great lesson for those of us who are wanting to follow God’s way.
The writer of the book of Hebrews reminds Christians that they need to keep focussed on Jesus and what he has done in the following words: “Let us throw off everything that so easily entangles ... let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.”
Jesus has shown us the way to God, through his life, death, burial, resurrection and ascension and if we are to achieve the goal of being in the presence of God in heaven at the end of our lives we must not be distracted from Jesus’ way.
