Eurobodalla Shire Council last week voted to award NELMAC Pty Ltd the tender to construct the new concrete bridge, which links Broulee and Mossy Point.
Work will also be undertaken to reconstruct the bridge approach roads, footpaths and Mossy Point car-parking area located on the northern side of the bridge.
It comes after the council secured a $1,097,000 grant from the federal government for the project in April.
Bega MP Andrew Constance also announced a $1,125,000 commitment for the project as part of his NSW election campaign.
Council’s application for these funds is under consideration by Transport for NSW.
The existing bridge has deteriorated “beyond repair” due to corrosion of the steel reinforcement, known as “concrete cancer”.
The new bridge is expected to have a higher load carrying capacity and a 100-year lifespan.
While it is under construction, the bridge will be closed to all traffic, however pedestrian access will be maintained via a temporary footbridge.
