The Candelo-Bemboka Panthers are launching the Eights competition sponsored by Service One.
The format will echo the Group 16 nines competition and Panthers president Dave Allen is hoping for a strong turnout.
“We are hopeful of getting 10 teams to participate and make the day a permanent fixture on the Group 16 calendar,” Allen said.
With a final fixture pending, the competition is scheduled to be held at Colombo Park, Bemboka, on June 6.
Invitations have been extended to every Group 16 club - including Batemans Bay - as well as Milton-Ulladulla, some teams in Group 6 and members of the Canberra competition.
“Hopefully all Group 16 clubs will be able to enter a team, with the 10th spot being offered to the first taker from the Group 6 and Canberra competitions,” Allen said.
“We have also joined up with the Joanne Mackay Foundation for the day to raise funds for breast cancer patients.”
The foundation, named in honour of the late Joanne Mackay wife of former Australian player Brad, provides support for breast cancer patients and their families.
The club will donate $2 from every entry towards the foundation on the day.
The day is set to run as an eight-a-side shortened format.
Matches will run for just 14 minutes across two halves with a one-minute half-time break.
Organisers are aiming to have just a two-minute delay between games on the day.
Similarly to the Nines tournament, cash prizes will be offered to the two highest placing clubs.
There will also be a single person club sprint for a $100 prize.
“We hope to run with two pools of five where each team plays four pool games,” Allen said.
“The winner of each pool will play-off in a straight final.”
However, he said if 10 squads didn’t enter, the draw would have to be altered to suit.
The anticipated pools have been seeded based on teams’ competition standing.

In regular league news, the Candelo-Bemboka and Merimbula-Pambula rosters will head south to take on Eden at George Brown Memorial Oval, on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the combined under 18s will play in Bega against the Roosters.
The Hot Doggies league-tag side will open proceedings against the Eden Tigerettes from 11am.
“They will look to back up from a solid performance last week against the strong High Heelers team,” Allen said.
Noon sees a grand final rematch in the reserve grade game where the Panthers meet the Tigers.
“ In the first encounter this season Eden proved too strong for an under-strength Panthers line-up,” Allen said.
“However, with several of last season’s players returning, CBU will prove a much tougher opponent this time around.”
Allen said the Pink Panthers have been improving, but still chasing their first win.
“With a Sunday game this week they will be back to their full complement of players, and no doubt will be looking to bounce back after a solid defeat by the High Heelers last Saturday,” he said.
The headline first grade match kicks off at 2.30pm.
Allen said both the Tigers and Bulldogs teams had big wins in the last round and would be going to the game confident.
The Bulldogs shocked supporters when they pipped the Eden Tigers in the first round.
“The Tigers will be looking to avenge their first round defeat by their northern neighbours.”
