The historic day was marked with a visit to the aged care facility from members of the defence force, who led the momentous ceremony.
Bupa's recreational activities officer, Naomi Turnbull, said the residents were thrilled to take part in the 100th anniversary Anzac tribute.
“The whole facility took part, staff and residents, and we had the visiting military,” Ms Turnbull said.
“One of our residents, Jean Ramus, read part of the program.”
“Then we all came in for morning tea which we all shared together.”
As with many of our older population in Australia, they know only too well the ravages of war and the importance of honouring those who fought for our country.
“A lot of the residents' own fathers fought in World War I,” Ms Turnbull said.
“They lived through World War II, so they have a good understanding.”
Despite the sombre basis for the service, residents revelled in the opportunity to come together and mark the occasion.
“They love morning teas and celebrating these kind of events,” she said.
