Campbell Page CCB Eden Hub is co-funding the group with Families NSW Bega Valley Network.
Project officer at Campbell Page, Liz Huggett, who is assisting with the delivery of the state-funded project, is hopeful the playgroup gets the community support it needs to secure its future.
“Eden had a couple of supported playgroups funded, but they lost their funding,” Mrs Huggett said.
“There is only one other small group, however they couldn’t handle anymore people, so we needed to create another one for the area," she said.
The free playgroup meets at the Eden Aboriginal Fellowship Hall each Wednesday from 10am to 12pm.
“We are asking for anyone who wants to come along to come along,” Mrs Huggett said.
“It was really good, we had quiet a good turn up from the local community and certainly to keep it running we need as much support from locals as possible.”
The first day was marked with a sausage sizzle with plans underway for excursions to child friendly places high on the wish list.
Greg Nicholson from Campbell Page and is in charge of delivering the project, said the playgroup was a service available to the entire community.
“We saw the need to provide a playgroup in a central location, where there is a high population of children,” Mr Nicholson said.
“Our group has the capacity for a large number of people because of the available space.”
Mr Nicholson believes the benefits of the playgroup were not only limited to the children.
“The playgroup provides a fun and safe environment for mums and bubs,” Mr Nicholson said.
“The main focus is about helping mums, by providing a network of other parents, where they can talk with others about parenting in an informal environment," he said.
