I refer to a question asked recently in the Merimbula News Weekly (Letters to the Editor, Scott Buckingham, April 15, 2015) as to the membership of the Bega Valley Shire Residents and Ratepayers Association (BVSRRA).

My understanding is that their rules require anyone who wishes to be a member to pay $1 and apply to join and after being accepted to pay $2 per year to become and remain a financial member.
From my own experience, this has never happened.
At the incorporation of the organisation, several people (including myself) paid their $1 in cash and applied to join and nothing further occurred; no acceptance of membership, no receipt and no request for the annual contribution of $2 required to be a financial member.
I personally thought to have a genuine ratepayers' association in the shire would be a great idea, however this organisation appears to be nothing more than a vehicle for the secretary to express his own views and appear to be doing it on behalf of a ratepayers association, which in a normal situation would give him credibility.
Given the above facts I leave people to judge for themselves.
