Bega Valley Shire Council’s community development officer, Emma Benton, said she was delighted by the variety of Youth Week events on offer this year.
“This year we funded six events to take place across the shire in celebration of Youth Week,” Ms Benton said.
“There are some amazing activities to get involved with from hip hop drumming workshops with FLiNG in Bega, to snorkelling with the Sapphire Marine Discovery Centre in Eden.
“Each event this year is funded by a council grant of $1000 and local young people have been involved in their organisation.
“A Youth Week highlight not to be missed is the Youth Gig organised by the Bega Valley Youth Council.
"This event held at the Bega Youth Space on Wednesday, April 15, will be a great showcase of young local performers.
“The full list of events include school holidays art workshops on Thursday, April 9 and Friday, April 10 at the Women’s Resource Centre in Bega.
“A free hip hop drumming workshop at Bega High School on Saturday, April 11 looks set to be a hit, as does the free snorkelling research survey in Eden on Sunday, April 12.
“A chance to have your artwork displayed at the Skate Deck Art Workshop will be a great opportunity for young artists to show off their talents at the Bermagui library on Friday, April 17.
“Keeping with the artistic theme, young people can create postcard sized ceramic works at a workshop hosted by the Bega Valley Potters Studio on Sunday, April 19.
“We have a fun day of activities with the Amazing Race in and around Merimbula on Saturday, April 18 and on Sunday, April 19 we have a return of the Bega Skate Comp and barbecue at the Bega skate park.
“This will be a great week of activities and it’s great to know that young people around the Shire are behind the organisation of these fantastic events,” Ms Benton said.
Youth Week events will be held from April 10-19.
