A special report has revealed that NSW residents are spending upwards of $600 to register a caravan that would cost them just $54 to register across the border in Victoria.
NSW hits vanners between $221 and a whopping $399 for a typical caravan, while heavier vans incur fees in excess of $600.
In Victoria, it only costs a paltry $54 to register the same van, and $90 in South Australia.
In WA fees vary between $73 and $122, Tasmania $95-$155, Queensland $122-$209, NT $170-$270, while the ACT charges $338 for a smaller sized van.
NSW Transport is currently in the process of reviewing vehicle registration costs, as caravan associations call for the harmonisation of fees, which impact on manufacturers as well as consumers.
