Mr Shearer was involved in an horrific accident on December 10 last year and has since been recovering in Mackay.
“Marcus still has a long way to go,” his mother Di Skipworth told the Eden Magnet this week.
“He needs more operations and it was touch and go there for a little while.
"It looked like he could’ve lost half his right leg below his knee but thankfully he didn’t.
“It was really special that he was able to see the support and that the community is behind him.
"Even though he couldn’t make it down for the event he was really emotional at the amount of people there on the evening,” she said.
Ms Skipworth estimated that about 60 to 80 people attended the trivia fundraiser at the Great Southern Inn, Eden, on Saturday night, which was followed by a breakfast and poker game on Sunday.
The money raised will go towards Mr Shearer's medical costs.
"The great thing about it was that there were people from 18 up to 84," Ms Skipworth said.
"From the young ones who know my sons to older people who I know from ladies bowling, everyone got behind Marcus.”
The fundraiser was organised by friends including Leigh Hennessey and Steph Robin who work at the Great Southern Inn.
“I’ve known Marcus for about 15 years and he was in my wedding party as one of the groomsmen," Ms Robin said.
"When I found out that he had had the accident I was absolutely shattered.
"He was such a fit, active person.
"He has a long recovery ahead of him, both mentally and physically,” she said.
After the event Ms Robin was able to share some of the images of everyone at the fundraiser with Mr Shearer via social media and said that his response was very emotional.
Mr Shearer was a student at both Eden Primary and Eden Marine High schools and started an apprenticeship with a local butcher and is well-known in the area.
He was driving machinery for one of the mining companies in Mackay at the time of the accident.
Organisers would like to thank the community for the overwhelming support shown to Mr Shearer and his family.
