Many of the volunteers from the information centre are supporters of the Australia's Biggest Beanie project and have contribtued to its fruition and fundraising.

But to create the giant beanie that will eventually be hoisted up onto the Eden Killer Whale Museum's lighthouse the program needs more people to hop on board.

Knitters and sponsorship of the knitted squares are still needed.

The pattern is for a 10 inch square knitted with 8 ply yarn on size 8 needles.  

People can sponsor a square by visiting the EKWM or visiting the many cancer street stalls held through the week in front of the Eden Newsagency. 

And for all the writers out there, there is also a writing competition with the topic, 'Hats Off', with all stories and poems entered to focus on hats and, if possible, beanies in particular. 

When writing, entrants are encouraged to try and think outside the 'square'. 

There is no entry fee.

Sections include poetry: adults, primary student, secondary student; and best short story (500 words maximum): adults, primary student, and secondary student. 

The winner of each section will be crowned at the big finale on Saturday June 6.

Winners will be published in the Magnet and read out on SEA FM.
