It’s all in pursuit of the coveted monthly goblet, twelve of which are awarded at each annual presentation event.
Last weekend was designated as the goblet weekend and so the club’s die-hard anglers unsheathed their rods once more.
With only one week having passed since the Flathead and Bream Tournament (FBT), many members took to the lake once again.
The club president, Neil Alexander, was excited to land a healthy flathead of 79.5cm.
Having been “on duty” and unable to fish during the FBT, he was happy to show he could catch a good flattie too.
Sadly for Alexander, it wasn’t good enough to beat Paul Brown’s 4.11kg mulloway in the men’s lake and estuary division of the monthly club competition.
Interestingly enough, very few anglers were successful in their quest to catch a tailor.
Steve Tomin did, however, weighing in a 1.15kg model to take out the goblet.
The weigh-in was held at The Boatshed Café, with many members joining in to make the most of the club’s last summer time-slot.
“It was wonderful to see the juniors fishing from the Boatshed deck and enjoying every minute,” publicity officer Jo Starling said.
“With clocks returning to normal at the end of the month, so too will the monthly weigh-in time.”
Natalie Beileiter reeled in a 2.6kg flathead to win the ladies’ lake and estuary, Jan Williamson scored the ladies’ rock and beach prize with a 1.78kg salmon and the ladies’ outside was not awarded.
The men’s rock and beach was won by Steve Starling with a 1.97kg salmon, William Newman’s 640-gram flathead scored him the junior prize and Gavin Robinson took out men’s outside and mystery weight with a 1.34kg morwong.
Peter Williamson was handed the turkey of the month award for holding the GoPro camera back-to-front and filming his face for five minutes during the Flathead and Bream Tournament.
