Loss of culture diminishes the identity of a people; indeed, all mankind. 

Our indigenous folk would attest to that, I think. 

While the Hotel Australasia has not the links to antiquity, it has to the once vibrant industries and heritage of the Eden community. 

It also could have had a pivotal role in the redevelopment of Eden as a tourist destination of note. 

An historical building is a drawcard; a supermarket is not. 

More, empty specialty shops are not. 

When, in the next few weeks, the demolition of this potential beauty is begun, when the execution of another facet of local culture is undertaken, it will be too late. 

The town's identity will be further eroded. 

The roar and grind of the demolisher's tools will serve as a death knell. 

At that time, in the words of poet, John Donne, "send not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee".
