Project manager, David Buckley, said the installation of the ramp slabs last weekend had been well received by the Wonboyn community.
“Many locals turned up to watch the huge slabs being lowered into place for the boat ramp and there was lots of excitement,” he said.
The boat ramp and jetty were identified by Bega Valley Shire Council as being in urgent need of an upgrade which promoted an application for a grant.
The application was successful and Roads and Maritime Services provided $245,000 - half of the $490,000 estimated cost of the project.
Mr Buckley said detailed design work began in early 2014, including local stakeholder consultation followed by tendering and contractor engagement later in the year.
Construction work on the project began on February 2, and is on schedule to be completed in time for the Easter-April school holidays, he said.
The project includes enlargement of the launching area, a new boat ramp, new floating finger pontoon and access improvements, sealing works and lighting.
Installation of a fish cleaning table is also proposed, which has been manufactured and kindly donated by a member of the Wonboyn community.
But not all Wonboyn locals are impressed by the upgrade.
Bucky Rowlands from Wonboyn Cabins and Caravan Park has been opposed to it from the start.
"The other one was perfectly adequate," Mr Rowlands said.
Another business in the vicitinty voiced its opposition to the upgrade, claiming there were more pressing issues in the area.
The more urgent and overdue projects in the area were the unsafe roads around Womboyn and lack of public mooring, businessman, who wished to remain anonymous, said.
"There is nowhere at all to tie your boat up out here," he said.
The Wonboyn Lake boat ramp and jetty reconstruction project is being jointly funded by Bega Valley Shire Council and NSW Roads and Maritime Services.
